Alfred Hitchcock’s stunning early masterwork, The 39 Steps (1935) has been twice remade, imitated by everyone (including Hitchcock himself!) and is now a smash Broadway musical/thriller. Come to the cinema to watch and discuss this exhilarating classic. Film-maker Glenn Andreiev will introduce the film and discuss the film’s production, and how it broke and re-shuffled the rules of movie-making. Afterwards, Andreiev and the audience will discuss how Hitchcock took the simple concept of an innocent vacationer (Robert Donat) hurled into a world of evil masterminds, police chases, and constant inescapable danger, and made what many critics feel is one of the greatest, most exciting spy thrillers ever filmed. UK, 1935, 86 min., b/w , video
