“I don’t care how rich he is, as long as he has a yacht, his own private railroad car, and his own toothpaste.” sighs Marilyn Monroe in the much beloved comedy classic Some Like It Hot. What she got instead were two broke, bickering, cross-dressing musicians (Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon) running from a murderous gangster (George Raft). Director/writer Billy Wilder’s most famous film, Some Like It Hot was an instant hit upon its 1959 release. It dished out comedic tidbits of mass murder, seduction, homosexuality, and drag-queen culture. It is a cult classic whose fans repeatingly come back for many more viewings.

Film maker and film historian Glenn Andreiev presents a zoom chat on Some Like It Hot. Zoom participants will talk about what makes this film so hilarious. Also discussed will be the two European comedies that Some Like It Hot is directly based on, the delicious wit and filmmaking style of Billy Wilder, and how this classic almost started out as a quite different film. As Joe E. Brown often says in this film – “Zowie!”
